Then There Was One
I guess I was fortunate. When I was born, I had all four of my great-grandmothers and one great-grandfather. I never really knew my mother's paternal grandma, she died when I was 8 and didn't live anywhere near us. I remember my dad's maternal grandma; she was a royal bitch.
I loved the looks on peoples' faces when I said "my great-grandmothers..." Yes, I have, well, had, two. Until a couple of hours ago.
I just heard from my mother that my Great-Granny Myrtle passed away tonight. She would have been 95 next Sunday. I feel bad because the last time I saw her was 6 years ago at my grandparents' 50ths birthday. She wasn't doing so well health-wise, but was in great spirits.
She was always a character. She was a crazy old broad with a tight wig and a penchant for Me-Tai's (do not correct me, that's how she pronounced them). I love when she would get worked up and would shout "LOOOOORRRRRDYYY!!" Yeah, she was a riot. :)
Rest in Peace Granny-Myrt.
