Take Me Home...

Yesterday was the party for my niece; she turned 1 last week. Seems like, well, only a year ago, that I was welcoming her into this world. She was a trooper; she devoured her cake like the cake-ho she is. She also fed some to the floor...the chair...the bagged gifts...the chandelier; pretty much everyone got some.

We all stood around and laughed as she went into a sugar-induced tired of bouncing back and forth and yelling "ahahah aaaah aahahahah aaaaaah" at the top of her wee lungs. Then, we did the unthinkable -- we packed her in the car and headed south.

After an evening and much of a day on the road, we made it into South Carolina in one piece. We traveled through the Virginias (the real one, and the one jb hails from;-) ) and the Carolinas.

It's bittersweet to be coming to my homeland. I love the scenery: the trees, the birds, the bugs... I swear the state bird might be a mosquito...and the state plant spanish moss? It's hot as Hades down here and I've got the sunburn to prove it. I also have a nice tension headache from dealing with the family...

I'm coming "home" to a bunch of relatives that I've not seen in 8 years so that we may honor and say goodbye to the matriarch of our southern royalty. She was a southern "lady" who got her hair set weekly and socialized with the other "ladies" about town. She would be delighted to see us all together to celebrate her life.

It's also bittersweet in that this state is mostly dry on Sundays, so there is nowhere to go for a cocktail, and that's not really conducive to celebratin'. I think this event deserves a stiff drink.

You packed the baby full of cake and icing then started your 24 hour road trip!? Good lord, whose idea was that?! Someone with stock in xanax, surely.

Good roadtrip photos! Glad you are attempting to enjoy the ride. We only get to go around once, ya know?

Hang in there, poo...
