TPS Report

or "we're gonna need to go ahead and move you downstairs into storage B. "

My office is becoming more and more like Initech. I have 2 bosses, who I love (that's not the Office Space part). I also have 3 other VP/AVP's in my company who feel that they are my boss and as such can each tell me to do 3 different things. I've told my "retired" boss(don't ask) about this and she's been pretty good about coming to my rescue, but it's getting insane.

I'm about to tell the other 3 to go do things to themselves that, until 2003, were probably illegal in many states. Basically the conversation goes like this:

Wannabe boss 1: "Um, yeah. I'm going to need you to go ahead and post the TPS report on the intranet tonight."

Later that night, Big-Big Boss calls IT and has them remove TPS report from intranet.

Wannabe boss 2: "Um, yeah. Why did you put RSL report out on the intranet 2 months ago?"

Me: "Because Wannabe boss 1 asked me to"

Wannabe boss 2: "TAKE IT DOWN!"

Meanwhile, I discover TPS report gone and try to figure out what happened. Then I call IT and have the site reverted back to a 2 day-old backup and fix it from there

Me to Big-Big Boss: I fixed the intranet

Big-Big Boss: That's great, so you took the RSL report down?

Me: Yeah, and got the TPS report back up.

Big-Big Boss: Um, Yeah. I'm going to need you to go ahead and take that down. I had IT remove it yesterday.

Me: So THAT'S what happened with it? I'm the only one authorized to make changes to that folder.

Big-Big Boss: Um, Yeah...Well, I went ahead and had it removed.

ARGGGHH!

Gratuitous niece shot to make me smile:

(also a blatent rip-off of one of my fav. blogs)

Adorable child! Sort of makes all thatbullshit about TPS reports bareable.

You can solve a lot of your web site design woes with a versioning system. This way, when something reverts, you'll know who made the change :)
