Out, I say!

So this week I had a two-day training on process improvement (and received the yellow belt in six sigma). The first day was almost 9 hours and concluded with a nice dinner. Then today, one of the HR managers who was in attendance comes to me and says: "I have to apologize to you"

Me: "Oh?"
HR: "Last night at dinner, I was talking with someone that was at our factory who we thought was a woman and turned out to be a man. Then I made a joke about it."
Me: "um...ok?"
HR: "Well, I didn't know at the time...until someone told me later...well, I didn't know that you are gay, and I hope I didn't offend you."
Me: "uhhh...ok??"

Alright...NOW, I'm offended. Just because I'm gay does NOT mean that I would be offended about a Tranny joke. That would be like saying "I'm sorry I made that joke about communists, considering your family has a russian last name."

Yep...That was my WTF?? moment of the week. ::sigh:: Some people are just stupid.

maybe they were concerned that they had said something offensive to you in your presence in the past, unknowingly?

Not that that makes it any less offensive. Possibly, more so.
